What is Laser Therapy?

Laser therapy is the use of specific wavelengths of light to treat painful and debilitating conditions. MLS Laser Therapy stands for "Multiwave Locked System". There are actually two lasers, each of a different wave length. One is a pulsed laser to treat swelling and inflammation and the other is a continuous laser to treat pain. This is the first system to combine both types.

How does it work?

Light energy enters the damaged cells and stimulates inter-cellular activity. This reduces pain in the area and speeds recovery of the damaged cells. Once the cells recover, the healing process is complete.

What can I expect during the treatment?

MLS Laser Therapy is a painless treatment that lasts an average of 8 minutes. You may experience a comfortable sensation at the point of application.

What can I expect after the treatments?

Most people experience positive results in 1 to 3 treatments, with the average course of treatment being 6 sessions for acute problems and to 10 sessions for chronic problems. Swelling is greatly reduced and there is a rapid relief of paion. Acute conditions usually subside quickly, typically within one phase of treatments, while chronic conditions can be controlled with regular treatments.

The effects of MLS Laser Therapy are cumulative; therefore, you should expect to see improvement as you proceed through your treatment plan. It is critical that once you start, you coplete the course of treatments recommended by your doctor or symptoms are likely to reoccur. Success rates have been reported at between 70 - 90%.

The Encinitas Podiatry Group

We have a large armamentarium of treatment options for dealing with musculoskeletal pain.

On the initial visit, we will review your medical history, observe your gait, often take an X-ray or an imaging ultrasound examination of the foot to confirm your pathology. The doctor will then review which treatment options would be considered best for you. This will help us find the best treatment for you. We find that often patients have already tried a number of conservative measures. We can usually take steps to relieve your pain on the initial visit.
