THE PRACTICE Dr. Hatfield has practiced in Encinitas since 1978. He was the first full time podiatrist in the community and the first podiatrist on staff at a Scripps Hospital. PEDORTHIC CARE Pedorthics is fitting and modification of shoes and foot orthotics to alleviate foot problems. We are the only podiatry office in the county to employ a fully trained pedorthist. Nicole Porter has completed the Pedorthics Course at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. She is available to assist in shoe and orthotic fitting and modification needs. Office Policies Appointments: Office hours are by appointment. Please call in advance to schedule. If cancellation is necessary please give us 24 hours notice, as there are often other patients who would desire to take an available appointment time. Emergencies: We make every effort to be available for emergencies. Insurance: A partial list of contracted insurance companies is listed below. If we are contracted with your insurance company, we will follow their payment guidelines. If we are not contracted with your insurance company, payment is due at the time of service. Medicare covers most foot care services, but not orthotics and occasionally other services. Medicare always covers surgical correction and treatment of painful foot conditions. The Consultation: At the time of the initial office visit, we will need a little extra time to become familiar with your medical status. Even if you have a minor problem, this can be important, so we schedule extra time for this interview. The doctor will perform a thorough exam, x-rays will be taken if necessary and a treatment course will be discussed.
